Are you suffering with Actinic Keratosis?

This skin condition, also known as solar keratosis, is often displayed as a rough scaly patch on the skin that is caused by years of sun exposure can be rather uncomfortable to live with. Aside from its concerning appearance that resembles the look of warts, Actinic Keratosis is actually classified as a precancer.

If left untreated, it is possible that this condition can develop in to skin cancer. The main cause of Actinic Keratosis is derived from exposure to artificial UV sources, in most cases, indoor tanning. Q: What is a dermatologist?
A: A dermatologist is a medical physician who specializes in treating and diagnosing conditions of the skin. A certified dermatologist will have completed four years of medical school, one year of an internship and three years of specialized training.
Q: How do I know if my skin needs to be checked?
A: If you spot anything that may appear to be abnormal on your skin, whether it’s the development of a new spot, rash or bump, you should have it examined by a certified dermatologist as soon as possible. Better than anyone, you know your body and should know when something isn’t right.
Q: Is it alright for me to see a physician assistant (PA) or a nurse practitioner instead of a dermatologist?
A: Only when a PA or NP has trained under the super vision of a dermatologist for an extensive period of time is it recommended to have them evaluate the condition of your skin’s health.
